LANDesk Software Announces Upgrades to Flagship Systems Management Solution

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PRESS RELEASE
January 30, 2008

Salt Lake City – LANDesk Software, a leading provider of systems, security and process management solutions, today shipped LANDesk® Management Suite 8.8. The new release is designed to help customers more easily secure and manage enterprise systems by adding new real-time software distribution, licensing monitoring, alerting, provisioning and reporting tools to LANDesk Management Suite’s already comprehensive system and configuration management capabilities.

“LANDesk Management Suite 8.8 offers a high degree of automation that greatly improves software distribution capabilities,” Coby Gurr, business line director at LANDesk Software. “Features such as the ability to offer multiple packages in a single policy, a local scheduler and a software deployment portal are all designed to help IT managers more efficiently manage software distribution.”

LANDesk Management Suite 8.8 also includes a new reporting tool that configures the cost savings for critical IT activities. “We frequently have requests for tools that can illustrate cost savings and show return on investment for IT departments,” Gurr said. “This new version of LANDesk Management Suite provides real-time analysis that demonstrates the bottom-line value of actions such as software distributions, antivirus, spyware handling, patches deployed and more in real time.  We believe this can be an important reporting tool for IT departments.”

Additional upgrades to LANDesk Management Suite 8.8 include improved software license monitoring capabilities that provide administrators with the ability to deny application launch for specific groups of machines. Also, enhanced provisioning capabilities, including improved Microsoft Vista support, enable users to completely install and configure all systems and servers using a single task. The suite now contains over 100 provisioning templates that provide access to the optimal hardware configuration based on the server vendor’s recommendations.

With the growth of Macintoshes in the enterprise, the new version also includes features that strengthen Mac manageability. “We see strong growth in heterogeneous Mac and PC environments and this solution will help IT departments avoid the need to create parallel support and management infrastructure for both systems,” said Michael Gonzales, senior analyst/programmer and LANDesk administrator at Baylor University.
